When 1 in 2 girls drop out of our sport, what can we do? Come to our workshop at Neptune RC from 12.30- 3.30pm on Sunday 2nd<\/sup> March <\/strong>and find out!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Coaching Teenage Girls in Sport workshop has been developed by \u202fSport Ireland, adapted by Rowing Ireland Coach Education, and is highly recommended for all coaches working with teenage girls. It raises awareness of the challenges for teenage athletes and stimulates increased understanding, inspiration, and action to engage and retain teenagers in rowing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Workshop Content<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The workshop is made up of five main modules: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Drop-out And Engagement in Girls\u2019 Rowing and Physical Activity\u200b. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Meeting the Psycho-Social Needs of Girls in Rowing. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Coaching Girls 12-17 years – Body image & Maturation\u200b. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Menstruation and training. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Preparing for the Challenges of Adolescence in Girls. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Coach Learning Resources<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    As well as the workshop, which is delivered by Robin Winkels and John Dillon, both trained Coach Developers, the learning resources provided for each coach consists of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Pre-workshop task:<\/strong> A pre-workshop task to get each coach to think about good coaching practice with teenage girls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Reflective journal:<\/strong> After each section of the workshop each coach gets the opportunity to consider how the content may apply to their coaching.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Coach\u2019s manual:<\/strong> This consists of the content of the workshop, allowing the coach to read and review what was covered in each section of the workshop.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Let\u2019s Get Real tasks: <\/strong>These are for use post-workshop to support coaches to transfer their learning to their practical coaching, with the girls they coach, in their club environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      The 3-hour workshop provides an excellent start-point. <\/strong>Highly recommended for both male and female coaches, it raises awareness of the challenges for teenage athletes and stimulates increased understanding, inspiration, and action to engage teenagers in rowing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      It is especially valuable for male coaches as they may not have lived experience <\/strong>and particularly seek more knowledge around the physical and emotional impact puberty has on girls in a sporting context. This is particularly difficult for male coaches to grasp without that specific education.<\/p>\n\n\n
